    Hi Greg, it's very late, but may I ask something? It seems to me that this Site is somewhat north facing. Do to the angel of shadows and Sun it must be very hard to find any lift on this side of the mountain. I asume that there was a regional wind coming from north. Wouldn't it easier to search for thermals in the flatlands?

    The only problem I see with 777 gliders is their pricing. They keep cutting the price after a year or 2, screwing over the early buyers when they wanna sell their glider on the used market. Valic brothers you have to decide ... is your wing worth 3k or 2,5k... and stick to it.

      +1 I have probably little less than 100h on Tenor 1 and I'm thinking about Rook 4 and Beat 2. I really like that Rook has all kevlar lines, but Phi may be a bit less demanding to fly. @flybubbleparagliding ?

    • @Adr1i96
      @Adr1i96 3 дні тому

      I didn't fly the rook so far, but I am flying high B (Maestro 2 and BGD Base 2 Lite) for the second season now and I testet many high Bs (Explorer 2, Mentor 7 Light, Ikuma 3, soar 2,..) in the last 2 years and I can say that the Beat 2 is a easy wing, but definitely feels not like a high b. It has less performance, against the wind especially. If you want performance choose high B, if you want an easy wing with less performance choose mid B. Big difference in my opinion is that high Bs have B-C steering. So you can fly in turbulent air with speedbar. That's a game changer in Xc flying for me. Phi asked me after testing the Beat 2 how I liked it and I told them, that I had the feeling, that it's just not as efficient as the maestro 2 or other high Bs especially while flying against wind and they told me that exactly that is the difference between their Maestro and Beat. The Beat is more a fun glider. If your main goal is XC flying, then the maestro is the right choice. If you want to fly a bit acro, want to soar some dunes and fly a bit Xc, then the Beat is the right choice.

    • @flybubblecarlo
      @flybubblecarlo 2 дні тому

      From my testing the pilot demands are quite different between these two wings. The Beat 2 / light is an easy mid B (pilot demands) with performance not that far off even the best high B wings. The Rook 4 is clearly a high B wing (pilot demands) offering a bit more performance, mainly top speed and glide at top speed. So, to not confuse things, first you have to decide which level of pilot demands you want, then decide from the wings that match those pilot demands.

    • @flybubblecarlo
      @flybubblecarlo 2 дні тому

      When testing the Beat 2 / light, gliding next to higher performance wings, pilots were always surprised (and a bit frustrated) to learn it's a mid B wing; they thought it was a high B wing. However, I think the very best performing high B wings have a bit more top speed and glide at top speed (but with much higher pilot demands).

      @@Adr1i96 Thanks for sharing your thoughts - all very interesting! 🙂 Honestly, I don't find that in reality that having a BC bridge really makes all that much difference in terms of real performance. It does, a little, if used correctly, and that difference can make a difference over a long, big flight, but I find the main difference is the style of piloting. As for the Beat 2 / light, as with most solo PHI wings the pilot can choose to change to their risers with a BC bridge, the R07, which I still feel have some of the best handling of any (although, as a new review to come soon will reveal, there may now be some that are even better, in our opinion).

      Fyi a recent study by Wales adventure tourism concluded that Outdoor Activity in Wales is worth 1.6 billion Annually, and that outdoor activity providers add 205 million Annually to the economy. Very easy to read up on online. I understand that not everyone spends money locally, but the reality is that many do, and it's helping the Welsh economy.....this isn't my opinion. It's an easy fact to verify. I acknowledge that not everyone benefits. But an improved economy does benefit the majority.

    • @flybubblecarlo

      I find almost all harnesses with a more supportive back and aerodynamic shaping restrict looking straight up at the wing when ground handling, especially if the harness is on the big side for you. I've not found the Arrow and Hawk to be especially difficult in this regard; actually better than some. Some harnesses are very restrictive and so looking up is very difficult even with correct posture e.g. the Skywalk Cult 4, which I I find very stiff and restrictive for movement (and rather stiff and bulky overall). The solution I find is correct technique, stance and posture, and checking the wing by looking up but to the sides, one at a time (left then right, or vice versa) which is also better for correct technique, stance and posture. Correct size and setup is of course also important. Hope this helps. 🤓

    • @AussieDangerDave
      @AussieDangerDave 4 дні тому

      @flybubblecarlo Thanks Carlo. I launch from some very small spaces where getting a twig in the lines is quite common so a quick secondary check is important - granted a pod harness is not ideal in these circumstances however, I noticed my friend in his WV GTO x alps does not have any issues and can easily look straight up, but no doubt it is related to the design (and perhaps to some extent my posture). It certainly is crazy comfy in the air.

      As for holding in asymmetric collapses on the Beat 2 and Beat 2 Light, from my testing the behaviour is so good i.e. benign and forgiving that it actually made me laugh. 😆 On this note, from my testing of the Beat 2 and Beat 2 Light, they behave better in collapses and other SIV manoeuvres than some low B wings (not the Tenor 2 or Tenor 2 Light, which are even more forgiving). They are really amazingly well behaved, I found. Having said this, due to their a bit higher aspect ratio, and more responsive and dynamic handling, we put the pilot demands of the Beat 2 and Beat 2 Light as mid B (easy mid B). They are ideal as second wings for most pilots. For many pilots they offer everything you could possibly want in one wing, we feel. 🤓

    Help help. I bought an epsilon 9 and one of the reasons I bought the epsilon 9 is the handbook online said "this Wing will fly you better through turbulent conditions with the pilots hands up. However we recommend active flying" I'm flying at the very end of the weight range for being too heavy. So will this wing fly through turbulence with my hands up? I talked to a lot of pilots that came to the school to fly and they said basically, it would get very energetic and it blew off energy, and if I watched and kept it from shooting and gift wrapping me, the rest was just a minor pilot error. Since most accidents are caused by pilot error.

      @@notafanatic thanks a lot for answering. That's good to know. Because all over the internet People are loving the phi Gliders and I wasn't sure if I would miss something flying a wing like the UP. But sounds like the Lhotse ore Kibo are competitive and handle even nicer.

      @@adrianveit4930 you should test fly them both and see which you prefer as it's only my opinion.

    How does the Beat 2 compare against the Maestro 2. How would you decide which one to get?

    Great review, as always.👏What is the difference in flying the wing compared to the Tenor 2? According to specs, it has a slightly higher AR and 6 more cells. For progressing pilots getting their first low/mid B wing, what would you suggest? They both look ultra safe and good progression wings, so how to choose?

      Hi. The Beat 2 and Beat 2 light are mid B wings, not generally recommended as a first wing. The Tenor 2 and Tenor 2 light are low B wings, recommended as first wings for talented and ambitious beginners (like all low B wings). Curious to know what you thought of the brake line length? Did you fly with a wrap?

    • @flybubblecarlo
      @flybubblecarlo 6 днів тому

      As with most wings, a half wrap works best.
